"[H]is swerving phrases seemed in no hurry to get anywhere in particular but ended up going nearly everywhere." So well put I can almost hear the playing. I also love the idea of identifying the "guiding principles" of a show.

Michelle, it's definitely not just the chili. I saw this outfit in Knoxville and now just this week in Minneapolis, and I thank you for giving me such precise and powerful words about how great they are!

Wow! Such great writing, Michelle, from heart and mind and soul to the page, and lifting us to dream and desire and drift back to our always moving experiences with Dave Holland, in whatever context, a reminder that we must search for these occasions, the live music experience with its most accomplished creative spirits that take us to places that are beyond objective criteria.

Your last two sentences sum it all up. In the moment there is catharsis.

Lovely, Michelle – I just interviewed Kris Davis for my part-time radio show and she had just come back from the tour that included the Santa Fe Festival. She loves playing Dave's music (and during the band's run at Smoke in NYC, they dug deep into his repertoire) and has a great personal relationship with the bassist. Hope you get the opportunity to hear her new trio album "Run The Gauntlet", recorded with Bob Hurst (bass0 and Johnathan Blake (drums...and then some). Thank you so much for this!
